Summary

Kirill M. Zdanevich [1892-1969] was a Futurist painter, book and theater designer, born in Tiflis (Tblisi), Georgia. He was the brother of the Futurist poet Ilya Zdanevich.

Kirill Zdanevich worked with Vladimir Tatlin, Liubov Popova and others in the studio complex The Tower in Moscow in 1912. His interest in untaught painters led him to become involved in the Neo-Primitive movement and he exhibited with the Oslinyy Khvost (Donkey's Tail) group in Moscow in 1912. He also contributed to Mikhail Larionov's exhibitions The Target in Moscow in 1913 and signed the manifesto Rayists and Futurists that year.

After the Revolution 1917-19 he was an active member of the Georgian Futurist group 41 Degrees in Tiflis together with Ilya Zdanevich, Aleksei Kruchenykh and Igor Terentev. With Kruchenykh and Vasili Kamensky he produced a Russian Futurist book 1918 which featured 'Ferro-Concrete poems,' collage illustrations, and also lithographs by Zdanevich. These were printed in black with color added in the sections of partly geometric and partly calligraphic framework. Zdanevich visited Paris in 1920. In 1923 Lef magazine announced in its issue No. 4 that he was amongst the artists working for a new periodical Krysodav along with various Futurists and Constructivists. He died at Tblisi in 1969.
